The Accra High Court has issued an arrest warrant against the Director General (DG) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police and the Director General of the Legal and Prosecution Unit of the Ghana Police Service.
The arrest warrants were issued following the pair’s persistent failure to appear in court to answer alleged contempt charges.
The court’s decision came in response to an application filed by Sureword Global Outreach, seeking an order for the defendants to hand over a vehicle they had seized, with registration number GN 2925-20 to the applicant.
Despite court orders, the defendants repeatedly failed to appear in court, resulting in the issuance of an arrest warrant.
During the proceedings on Monday, April 15, the plaintiff’s lawyer, Abraham Arthur, filed an application for the commitment of the head of the CID and the Director General of the Legal and Prosecution Unit for contempt.
The court found that the defendants had “blatantly refused” to comply with its directives, prompting the issuance of arrest warrants.
The Court had specifically directed the IGP to order the Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service as well as the Director of Legal and Prosecution Affairs of the Ghana Police Service to appear in court on Monday morning , and while the orders had been carried out. carried out, the two defendants were not before the court.
According to the court, there was evidence on record to show that the court orders had been complied with and that there was an affidavit of service indicating that the court’s order to notify the IGP had been complied with.
Again, an earlier order was notified to the IGP on March 26.
“This court has shown sufficient courtesy towards these public officials and due to the fact that there is no one above the law, I hereby issue an arrest warrant for the respondents,” the court said.
