Manchester United twice had to come from behind to deny Bournemouth victory as the Red Devils’ winless run in the Premier League stretched to four games.
Captain Bruno Fernandes scored both goals for the visitors, who first fell behind until Dominic Solanke’s opener before Justin Kluivert gave the Cherries the lead at half-time.
Solanke ensured Bournemouth were rewarded for their positive start with an assured low finish into the corner after beating Willy Kambwala in the 16th minute.
That breakthrough only served to further motivate the home team and Andre Onana had to deny Milos Kerkez at his near post soon after, before Luis Sinisterra shot narrowly wide and Ryan Christie twice went close.
Bournemouth were punished for their profligacy in front of goal when Fernandes equalized after a cutback by Alejandro Garnacho.
But Kluivert restored the hosts’ lead five minutes later when a simple ball from Marcos Senesi exposed the generous space between Diogo Dalot and Kambwala.
Bournemouth should have been out of sight before the break, with full-back Kerkez heading off the crossbar and Kluivert failing to beat Onana from close range, although Fernandes hit the bar with a superb effort in response.
As the Cherries were unable to extend their lead, Fernandes equalized again midway through the second half, this time stepping up to convert a penalty awarded after Kobbie Mainoo’s shot deflected onto the unfortunate Adam Smith.
United, whose hopes of securing European football took a further hit, fell one place to seventh following Newcastle United’s 4-0 win over Tottenham earlier on Saturday.
Bournemouth, who remain in 12th place, thought they had been awarded a late penalty but, following an extensive video referee (VAR) review, it was determined that Kambwala’s foul on Christie had taken place outside the area.
