Peace activist Torgbui Kpemini Gawu V has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct credible and fair elections so that the result is acceptable to all.
He also called on the EC to install electronic scoreboards in all regions of Ghana to avoid litigation after the December 2024 elections.
Torgbui Gawu V, who is also the head of Anlo, was talking to the Ghana Times In an interview on Thursday, he said electronic scoreboards would allow all stakeholders to monitor election results and collate them independently.
He further said that the EC must apply all electoral rules fairly and without bias.
He said there was a lot at stake between the two main political parties, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Torgbui Gawu V said that while the ruling party, the NPP, wanted to break with the eight and continue its hold on power, the NDC, led by a former president, would want to return to power.
He admonished supporters of the two major political parties to behave well before, during and after the elections to bring peace and tranquility, especially in Anlo land.
Torgbui Gawu V said Ghanaians should embrace peace, avoiding provocative acts that would drag the country into irreversible violence.
Togbui Gawu assured that he would continue to advocate for peace in radio talk shows, media interviews and addressing public meetings.
Torgbui Gawu V said only voters had the power to elect a person to represent them in Parliament and as President.
He said problems often began during the counting of votes, where a lot of mistrust and disagreements arose.
“When the results announced by the EC are not transparent enough, the result is political violence,” he said.
Torgbui Gawu V said his followers should also be careful and avoid mocking losers because that also leads to political violence.
